Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division is the principal Energetics Center for the Department of Defense. The command’s mission is to provide research, development, test and evaluation and in-service support of energetics and energetic materials for warheads, propulsion systems, ordnance and pyrotechnic devices and fuzing for Navy, joint forces, and the nation, to include research, test, and engineering of chemicals, propellants, explosives, related electronic devices, associated ordnance equipment and special weapons support.
Naval Ordnance Safety and Security Activity is the Chief of Naval Operations technical authority for Explosives Safety. As the NAVSEA Technical Authority for Explosives Safety, NOSSA is responsible for providing technical policies, procedures and design criteria associated with weapons systems safety, including software safety across the warfare disciplines. NOSSA manages all programmatic policy requirements for the five major DoN Explosives Safety Program component programs.
Naval Sea Logistics Center, Indian Head is one of six NSLC detachments and provides Information Technology products and services and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and its Program Executive Offices, and ultimately in support of the Fleet.
Joint Interoperability Test Command is DoD's Joint Interoperability Certifier and only non-Service Operational Test Agency for Information Technology (IT) / National Security Systems. JITC provides risk based Test Evaluation & Certification services, tools, and environments to ensure Joint Warfighting IT capabilities are interoperable and support mission needs.
U.S. Marine Corps Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, when directed, forward-deploy and / or respond to a credible threat of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, or High Yield explosive (CBRNE) incident in order to assist local, state, or federal agencies and the geographical commander in chief (CINC) in the conduct of consequence management operations by providing capabilities for agent detection and identification; casualty search, rescue, and personnel decontamination; and emergency medical care and stabilization of contaminated personnel.
As of June 2018, Expeditionary Exploitation Unit ONE, EXU-1 was established as a stand-alone command onboard Naval Support Facility Indian Head.
EXU-1 provides globally deployable units of action tailored to meet operational fleet requirements. EXU-1 supports tactical and operational expeditionary mission such as mine countermeasure operations, surface and underwater post-blast investigations, special operations forces targeting, electronic engineering and forensic exploitation, advanced radiography and ordnance disassembly, and technical intelligence reach –back functions.
